Honor society releases two nurse management books
By

Two new books published by the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International could enable nurses to help solve the projected nursing shortage anticipated by 2020.*

The American Organization of Nurse Executives and the National Center for Healthcare Leadership identify coaching as an essential component of executive practice. Yet, until now, no books existed to help nurse leaders learn how to coach nurses.

The Nurse Executive’s Coaching Manual is the first and only book on coaching targeted specifically to nurse executives. Authors Kimberly McNally, MN, RN, and Liz Cunningham, BSN, MA, share their six-step I-COACH model to becoming an effective nursing coach:
  1. Intention and introspection
  2. Connecting and creating a relationship
  3. Opening the door for coaching
  4. Assessing strengths, understanding frame of reference and identifying outcomes
  5. Conversation to discover what is possible and to bridge the gap between “what is” and “what is desired”
  6. How it all comes together: learning, practice, impact, acknowledgement

How it all comes together
The Nurse Manager’s Guide to Hiring, Firing & Inspiring, by Vicki Hess, RN, MS, combines employment research with real-world nursing examples to share practical ideas for making the most of the nurse/nurse executive relationship. The easy-to-read book also includes tools, homework, stories and specific suggestions.
