| The flag processional opens the House of Delegates for the 40th Biennial Convention. |
Bylaws, Robert’s Rules of Order and traditions accumulated over the course of 39 biennia were the guiding protocols for today, Day 5 of the 40th Biennial Convention of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. In Session II of the House of Delegates, election results from Session I (convened on Tuesday) were announced; President Carol Huston passed the gavel to Karen Morin (elected in November 2007 to serve as president for the 2009-11 biennium); President Morin’s call to action and its visual essence—the logo—were announced; a vote was taken on proposed amendments to bylaws; and decisions were announced with regard to applications from various honor societies to become chapters of the international society, founded by six nursing students from Indiana University in 1922.
2009 Election Results
The House of Delegates elected the following as officers:

Above: Outgoing President Carol Huston, right, passes the presidential chain to Karen Morin. Below: Morin finds the presidential duties, as represented by the gavel, to be a "weighty" responsibility, to the amusement of Huston and the delegates.
